Course description

This course covers almost the salient aspects of anesthesia for laparoscopic surgeries. This has become an essential aspect of modern anesthesia practice. Participants for the Fellowship Course shall observe about 350-400 live surgical procedures from 4 operating theatres during their month of training.  The most common surgical procedures, performed laparoscopically, in order of frequency include Cholecystectomy, Groin Hernia repair, Incisional / Ventral Hernia Repair, Gastric Bypass, Sleeve Gastrectomy, Fundoplication, Stapled Hemorrhoidectomy, Minimal Access anal Fistula treatment, total laparoscopic hysterectomy, myomectomy and adhesiolysis etc.  Depending on availability the participants may also get to experience endoscopic thyroidectomy, thoracoscopies and even adrenal tumors.

 

The Fellowship course is suggested for participants who are beginners in laparoscopy.  The course offers Didactic Lectures, and participant interaction with faculty and operation theater staff.  The course content includes Basics of laparoscopy, Equipment and Instrumentation, Creation and effects of pneumoperitoneum. Commonly performed laparoscopic operative procedures would also be presented as didactic lectures.  These lectures include OT layout, airway management and preoperative preparation, and essentials of pain management.

 

At the end of the fellowship course, participants shall possess requisite information about the basics of laparoscopy and knowledge of the art and safe performance of commonly performed laparoscopic procedures, both basic and advanced.
