Bariatric Fellowship

Essentials of Bariatric Surgery (Fellowship)

This course comprises a comprehensive overview of provision of multidisciplinary bariatric services in the setting of a tertiary, referral hospital. Participants would gain an insight and understanding of management of these complex and difficult patients. Participants shall observe about 25 – 30 live Bariatric surgical procedures during their month of training. The large majority of these surgical procedures comprise Laparoscopic gastric bypass (LRYGBP) and Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy (LSG). Participants would also be introduced to the perspectives of Physician, Endocrinologist, Nutritionist and Psychologist in the treatment of obese patients in the multidisciplinary bariatric program.

The Fellowship course is suggested for participants as a comprehensive course in contemporary Bariatric care. It is expected that participants would have previously gained exposure to basic and some advanced laparoscopic surgery.

Simulated endotraining consists of varied monoeuvres and exercises to develop and improve hand eye coordination and to develop skills in laparoscopic suturing and knotting. Instructional videos are provided to establish and reinforce concepts gained from live operative demonstrations and didactic lectures.

At the end of the course, participants shall have obtained requisite information and exposure to setup resources to commence a Bariatric program.
