Hernia Masterclass

Essentials of Endoscopic Abdominal Wall Hernia Surgery (Masterclass)

Course description

The masterclass provides an exposure to endoscopic repair of groin, ventral and incisional abdominal wall hernias. Participants in the Masterclass shall observe about 10-15 live surgical procedures (endoscopic hernia repairs) during their week of training. The course provides detailed descriptions of endoscopic operative procedures for repair of groin and ventral / incisional hernias. The operative procedures presented are total extraperitoneal repair (TEP), transabdominal preperitoneal repair (TAPP) for groin hernias and intraperitoneal onlay mesh repair (IPOM), transabdominal partially extraperitoneal repair (TAPE), transabdominal complete extraperitoneal repair (TACE) for ventral / incisional abdominal wall hernia.

Simulated endotraining consists of varied monoeuvres and exercises to develop and improve hand eye coordination and to develop skills in laparoscopic suturing and knotting. Instructional videos are provided to establish and reinforce concepts gained from live operative demonstrations and didactic lectures.

The Masterclass course is suggested for participants who have already gained exposure to endoscopic hernia repair to expand and update their knowledge and gain further insights into these complex operative procedures.
